Dev Diary 12/2024: Major Overhaul of Competing Shows in Hotfix 2024.2.2

What began as a minor hotfix update quickly escalated into a massive development task. Read on for the juicy details! 🧃

Next Time On Endless Studio…

As we continued our quest to squash every known bug before embarking on the next feature update, we encountered a surprisingly large issue with shows from competing studios. Until recently, these shows had different data from those produced by players, leading to confusion, especially since our new Library room now displays all show data.

We found ourselves needing to completely overhaul how shows from competing studios are structured to better align with player-created shows. This was a significant challenge, particularly for games that are further along and contain vast amounts of show data. Aligning all this data with the new model was no small feat.

Ultimately, we resolved these issues, but had to implement some limitations. There's a one-time update process for existing competing shows that triggers when you first open your studio after the update. To avoid an excessively long update time, we've limited this to only recently aired shows. However, all shows developed by competing studios post-update will adhere to the new model.

With this overhaul, we made several adjustments to the game. Stay vigilant for any unexpected bugs! 👀

In addition to the show data revamp, we also corrected an issue where the studio building in old game saves was not visible. You can now seamlessly return to managing your old studios.
